mission

With 1.92 million tonnes of clothing waste generated every year, the fashion industry currently accounts for 10% of emissions and is predicted to increase by 50% by 2023 (earth.org). Furthermore, since clothes are mainly made from materials such as nylon and polyester, they contribute significantly to the problem of microplastic pollution. With each wash and dry cycle, these fabrics release tiny microfibers that end up in sewer systems and waterways. It is estimated that around 500,000 tonnes of these microplastic particles enter the oceans annually, posing a serious environmental threat. To put this in perspective, this amount is equivalent to the plastic pollution generated by more than 50 billion bottles.

As a brand, we are committed to addressing this issue and minimizing our environmental impact.

Environment, learning and entertainment

Aloof home aims to build a community by proposing the 3E (Entertainment, Education & Environment) so that environmental consideration, which has become essential in modern society, can be incorporated as a part of daily life while having fun. In order to raise awareness and recognition of sustainable lifestyles, it is also necessary to communicate this with people's familiar excitement.
Wear Healthy, Live Healthy. We strive for a healthy future for people and the planet.

Sustainability and Ethics

We continue to strive to provide solutions that are healthier for both people and the environment.

Targets by 2025

Traceability and Transparency
By partnering with manufacturers and supply chains that share this commitment, we ensure all of our raw materials are sourced ethically and sustainably, reducing environmental impact and promoting fair labor practices.

Use of non-toxic and natural dyes
To avoid using harmful chemicals that pollute the oceans and harm people's health, we only use natural dyes or dyes that are free of harmful substances. We actively partner with globally recognized organizations such as OEKO-TEX® and GOTS.

Minimize Waste and Pollution
We prioritize using more recycled materials in our designs and partner with facilities that focus on reducing textile waste and implementing sustainable wastewater treatment practices.

Development of biodegradable products
At aloof home, we take responsibility at the end of our product's useful life very seriously, and even if we don't reach the recycling, reuse and circular farming process, we develop products that are fully biodegradable to ensure they do no harm to the earth.

Representative Director and President Rika Sonobe

She built her career in Tokyo and London at world-renowned architectural and creative consulting firms. Her involvement in projects aimed at hospitality, retail, and community in diverse environments, regardless of nationality, race, or gender, led her to develop an interest in well-being and environmental issues. As a mother herself, she sympathized with the idea of a future where both adults and children can live healthy lives through washi paper, and in 2023, she became the CEO of A-Roof Home Co., Ltd.

Beyond the realm of fashion, we aim to raise awareness of washi materials both domestically and internationally, and to promote lifestyles that are kind to the environment and the body through lifestyle-related businesses, the Circular Farm Museum, and recycling counters.
